๐ Adam Karg is an Associate Professor & Director of the Sport Innovation Research Group at the Swinburne University of Technology.
1. What are you working on? ๐จโ๐ป
My current major focus is on applied research spanning data and technology in the sport business setting. In particular, our team is focused on questions with industry partners about experiences, digital adoption, renewal and attendance behaviors, and media and technology engagement within sport fans and season ticket holders. In short, we work with managers to help them make better decisions and develop strategies that enhance fan-sport organization relationships.
The next steps of our work include developing a long-term project to understand innovation ecosystems in sport business and how value is created and shared. Weโre looking to work with a range of organizations to explore the traditional and emerging stakeholders in sports systems and how ideas are created and shared.
I've also just finished a book with Professor Hans Westerbeek (Victoria University) on the future of international sport business; technology and innovation are obviously big themes here. Finally, weโre in the process of building a Sport Business Analytics unit to launch in 2022, the first of its kind in the Australia and New Zealand Region.
2. What can other people contact you for? ๐
Always happy to discuss and share research ideas and opportunities to explore the issues researchers and practitioners are having in the areas of sport business and sport consumption. Weโve worked with over 50 professional sport teams, leagues, and events and are always interested in collaborations that give us opportunities to extend current work or develop new approaches.
3. What are you looking for? ๐
Generally, the networking opportunities and scope to develop and share new research are exciting components of being involved with STRN. We are always keen to talk about partnerships that extend our work and allow us to complement our teaching and professional development courses. In particular, for new projects, our focus is on understanding how idea generation and sharing happens, and mapping where innovation happens and who is involved in sport business. Itโs an exciting time as organizations think about the post-COVID changes and how to approach the next phase of competitive advantage in sport business.
